ABOUT THE DFL FEMINIST CAUCUS

The DFL Feminist Caucus has been working since 1973 to bring about change by electing progressive legislators. And, we've made a difference! See by-laws, newsletters and handouts/brochure here.

Minnesota DFL Affirmative Action Statement:

The goal of affirmative action is to recruit individuals for political activity in the DFL and the Democratic process of our government. The DFL is an active participant in the struggle to end all forms of bigotry and discrimination. As part of our commitment to ending discrimination, we seek to increase the participation of members of those communities that have been traditionally shut out of and/or underrepresented in the political process. As part of this commitment, we will seek to elect members of these communities to positions both within the DFL Party and in public office. These efforts will be directed toward all underrepresented communities.

Here are some of the things we've achieved:

Our members and supported legislators have been responsible for progressive legislation including bettered women's programs, sexual assault programs, displaced homemaker programs, child health care, anti stalking legislation, among others.

The DFL Ongoing Platform affirms feminist principles.

The DFL Feminist Caucus leads the progressive forces at party conventions and provides campaign support for feminist candidates.

Hundreds of progressive women and men have become politically active and effective as a result of DFLFC training and outreach programs.

The majority of legislators in the Senate are pro choice.
